ATF: Medical Marijuana Patients Cannot Buy Guns

I guess Donna will have buy our armaments.

From High Times.

A new federal policy bars medical marijuana patients from purchasing firearms and ammunition. Last week the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sent a memo to federally licensed firearms dealers confirming that it is illegal for medical pot patients to buy guns.

Alternative Medical Remedies

Also known as my Pot Shop. And now officially my MMJ Provider. (Their FaceBook page) I had an interesting visit with two of the staff. This is a family operation and the father was there when I arrived. He entered me in the computer, photocopied my MMJ card, and talked me out of growing my own! I had already figured out that this was gonna be a lot of work: watering, trimming, raising the lights as they grow, and fertilizing. Then the harvesting process, called manicuring, is laborious and actually involves three different cuttings of the mature pot plant.

They claimed — and may be right — that it will cost as much to grow my own as it is to buy theirs and it will be much less potent. Due to my own time limits, I agreed to buy from them. When I became their patient/client, I got a 20% price reduction on all their dozens of varieties of MMJ. In return, the plants I could grow are transferred to them. If I change my mind, I can remove them but for now, this is the best move, I think.

I was VERY annoyed I could not even see the grow room! All the card got me was admission to the sales room. They wouldn’t even take a picture of the grow room for me. Soo . . .

This is the display of gadgets: bongs, vaporizers, and edibles. The black boxes on the left end of the second shelf are the vaporizers. They are $150 but on sale for $130. I was gonna do a layaway at her suggestion but she changed her mind and just made the sale price a longer term offer

The orange blob to the right of the necklace is the bong she liked. It is an eight chamber water pipe! And cost over $150; I admired the skill of making it. I bought one of the little bottles on the top shelf and one item from the larger bowl on the bottom one. I will get back to them.

This is the upper tier of product. And clothing. 😉 The sack on top of the counter is my purchase. The gadget on the left on top is their scale.

And the lower tier of pot. The bottom shelf has storage containers. I was just gonna put my pot in a baggie in the fridge. She said the danger is freezing; if the MMJ freezes, the little “resin glands” or stalked glandular tricomes which grow on the buds and leaves fall off. They are small and the Book recommends a 50x scope to look at them.

Isn’t this beautiful! This picture is a micrograph of a bud. The beads on the trichomes is almost pure THC. These are not ready for harvest since they are not yet yellowish.

There were white boards of the strains and edibles but I didn’t take separate pictures of them. Sorry. I did get part of the prices.

The fractions are parts of an ounce. This is for the high tier stuff. Is this market value? The internet says so: Canon City, Colorado $30 an eighth high quality August 19, 2011; State Average High Quality $290.11 which is $36.26 for an 1/8. So it is higher but so is the THC level; street pot is much lower than medical grade. Medical strains run between 15 and 19% THC; street pot now runs about 10%. So yeah, the premium is worth it.

I postponed buying the vaporiser until next month or later due to the medical expenses we are enjoying. So I got a “tootsie roll” as they called it.

This is a chocolate candy with 100 MG of THC. She recommended a dose of 1/8 of it. I can understand why they call it a “bank roll” at this price! Lol.

I also bought a bottle of tincture. The cautions are a hoot!

I will be using some of this in my wine shortly.

MMJ Card Update

I had resubmitted my application for a Red Card on August 16. I just tossed it all back in an envelop with my check and mailed it. And nothing happened.

Finally, two days ago, the check cleared! Two weeks to deposit a check?!

I assume this means eventually I will get my card. Unless they have some policy about not mailing an applicant’s check back and will write me a refund check! Lol.

At least temporarily. My MMJ card application came back rejected. I had sent my SS benefit record but what the secretary at the doctor’s office shoulda said was my SSI benefit! SSI is a disability benefit. I am not there yet! Lol.

So I have written a check for $90 and will mail it back tomorrow. They returned all the papers so it is essentially a new application with the rejection notice on top! I sent it in on my birthday so now know it takes about two weeks.

But this assures me it will go through this time or other defects would have been marked on the rejection check list. Yeah, right! 🙂

My Future MMJ Plantation

I haven’t received my Red Card yet but have started planning my “grow room”: our library! It was previously destined to be in my bedroom but the long hours of the grow lights would be a problem. 😉 This may be changed after the plants begin to mature; some marijuana is not pleasant smelling! One variety of Sativia is called “Skunk” for a reason! Some varieties are actually pleasant smelling; I hope my supplier can provide cuttings of those.

I am commandeering this desk.

This has become a place to dump stuff! All I have to do is clean it off! Lol. The books are all keepers and all our library shelves are full to overflowing! This lead to working on yet another project: Donna’s horse books. She is donating them to the school library so, if I could box them up, I could have that shelf space!

Other stuff on here include a weather station I never got up, the office organizer, and other office stuff. This was originally planned as work area. No one has ever worked there!

As I work on this, I keep feeling “Tom Sawyered”! Good thing I am motivated. Lol.

Mailed my MMJ Application

Thursday during my routine trip to town, I went by the Social Security office to get proof of my being on SS. To my shock, there was no one waiting! But I did the check-in thing on the computer. I didn’t make it to a seat when the guy at the window called my number! 10. It hadn’t been a busy day!

I told him what I wanted then he asked for a bunch of data to verify me: SSN, Mother’s maiden name, father’s name, birthday, etc. I obliged him but it seemed like overkill. And there was no charge. When I called Donna to tell her, I knew she was gonna ask the numbers off of it and that my insurance premium was gonna make her howl! It did! I pay $98/MO; she pays about $1000/MO! Eventually she will become old enough for Medicare!

The MMJ doctor’s office had been very efficient in preparing the packet for mailing. All I did was slip the two pages in the envelop and seal it. It was going by certified mail so cost about $4. In a week or two I should get my Red Card.

The doctor’s office guaranteed that if it were rejected for any reason, they would redo it and make it right. I am already planning my marijuana plantation in my bedroom! Lol.

My MMJ Appointment

Today was my appointment with a doctor in Pueblo for my MMJ card approval. It did not go as I expected.

I was gonna stop by one of the “grow your own” stores I had seen, one in Cañon City and one in Pueblo West on the way. Neither existed anymore. Something has changed.

I got to the office in the strip mall an hour early because my list of errands went faster than expected. It was 95 and there was no place to sit in the shade but, as I was assessing my situation, a big guy in what I thought was an aloha shirt (They were colorful scrubs!) got out. Turns out he was one of the doctors! I commented about their not having a bench and he said they used to but someone stole it! And stole some flowers out of the flowerbed. Tough neighborhood!

He let me in where it was cool anyway. He was back early from lunch to eat it in his office. I read my book, Fuzzy Nation.

Once the receptionist came in, it was the usual routine of filling out papers. I settled back to my book for a few minutes and then she told me to go on in for my appointment.

I was in much longer than I needed to be. Doctors enjoy talking to me and he was no exception. I now know way more than I needed to know but he is a very interesting guy! When I came out, there were other patients waiting but the other doctor wasn’t there yet!

He did two things I considered special: he referred me to a dispensary, and even called to let them know I was coming, and urged me to start as soon as possible because he felt MMJ could heal my cancer. Or at least extend my life several years.  It did his. He also mentioned something called Phoenix Tears I should look into..

While I waited for the other doctor, I called Donna and a guy I thought was another patient called me in! It was the other doctor wearing a T-shirt to work! Lol. He wasn’t as gung ho about the benefits of MMJ but felt it was more of a painkiller and mood stabilizer.

Both of them had no reservations about approving me.

Then the receptionist wanted some money. Cash money! They took neither checks nor credit cards (but they were working on it!) so I had to drive over to Sunflower Bank, two blocks away, and use the ATM for the $99. I had expected it to be $120 but she told me “they were running a special this week”!

When I gave her the cash, she gave me an envelope to mail to the state complete with a “certified mail” sticker. I have to include either $90 or a copy of the letter authorizing my Social Security payment. Old geezers get a Red Card for free!

I stopped by the dispensary on my way home. Doc #1 had told me she was “vivacious and attractive” which naturally meant “skinny” to me! Lol. She and I had a long talk about using and growing marijuana. Since I was not an official card carrying pothead, I didn’t get past the front office!

This will work. I am authorized to grow 6 plants. I had heard the things grow tall as corn stalks and there was no way that would fit in our house! But that is Sativia, the pot smoker’s preferred variety, but Indica is more like a shrub and had less THC with more CBN. They describe the effects as S. being more like a mental high and I. as being a “body high”. We talked horticulture some, too.

I asked if their stuff was grown hydroponically and she waxed eloquent! Not only was it but all organically grown, blah, blah. I commented that sounded like a pain in the ass. Her response floored me! “It is a lot of work but my husband is OCD so everything is done perfectly!” LOL.

They had a sign out front that was advertizing 1 oz. for $200. That seemed high to me (no pun intended!) but a knowledgeable friend said it wasn’t for hydroponic pot. She had previously gotten some CO MMJ and was amazed how better it was than the street stuff she bought.

The woman referred to Phoenix Tears and suggested I Google it. Potent stuff! It is also known as “hemp oil” and is potent! 1/4 of a drop is a dose!! I can make it myself from a pound of pot. They claim it cures cancer and makes one younger. And is a great sleep aid!

So I am on my way to being a card carrying user! I just want to use it to calm  my demons, not get stoned. 😉
